Activity One
Spiritual muscle game
Having Apples to Apples Bible Edition is great for strengthening your spiritual muscle. But even better than purchasing it is making your own Apples to Apples game.
- All you need is your Bible out for reference and making questions
- Red & green paper for writing the questions on!
- Scissors to cut the cards
- And a sharpie
Like the regular Apples to Apples game, the Bible edition includes a deck of green apple cards and several decks of red apple cards. The green apple cards are adjectives and the red apple cards are nouns or actions. The twist is these cards are Bible themed, and each card includes a Bible verse.
The deck has many expected cards (such as a lost sheep, disciples, David, and building bricks) and some less obvious ones (including apples, fields, and Johann Sebastian Bach).
How to Play
The Bible edition of Apples to Apples works the same as the standard game. One player is picked to be the judge. (Don’t worry... the judge position rotate each turn, so everyone gets a chance to play?) The judge deals red apple cards to each player, then picks a green apple card and turns it over for everyone to see. For example, the green apple card could be “righteous.” Each player (except the judge) picks a red apple card from his or her hand that best matches the green apple card and passes it face down to the judge. After everyone has contributed a card, the judge mixes up the red apple cards and turns them over. The judge then picks the red apple card that he or she feels best matches the green apple card.
The fun is, the players may have nothing in their hands that are truly a good match, making for some very silly answers. (Are rainbows “righteous”? How about sandals?)And in other cases, the judge may have to choose between a lot of very good matches. For example, the judge may have to decide between “righteous” answers such as Abraham, apostles, and John the Baptist. (Players beware: the “Jesus” or “the Lord” cards tend to be trump cards in these cases.)
The player who is awarded the best match takes the green apple card. The judge replenishes everyone’s hand with red apple cards, and passes judging duties to the next player. The player who gets the most green apple cards wins
